The information you find here about this family has been gleaned from census records, obituaries, the social security death index, and death certificates. It is a work in progress and probably contains several errors. Please, if this family is related to you or otherwise known to you, write to me at pamruss@frii.com. I would dearly love to meet living relatives, find out just where in Lithuania this family lived before coming to America, and add family photographs to my webpage.
Vincentius Jasaitis emigrated from Lithuania to the United States in 1891 and became a naturalized citizen. His wife Matilda Derenge Jasaitis, also known as Tillie, was also from Lithuania. They were married in approx. 1895. I believe they had eight children:
I don't believe that Cecilia reached the age of ten years old as she doesn't appear in the census for 1920 or the one for 1930.
Vincentius Jasaitis was the brother of my great-grandmother Petronella Jasaitis Uknavage. They had another brother Joseph Jasaitis of Columbus, Ohio. Both of these men changed their last names to Sites and Vincentius also changed his first name to William.
In the 1900 census Vincent Yasaitis and family live just three doors down from his sister Petronella and her family in Westville, Illinois - Vermilion County.
In the census for 1910, 1920, and 1930 William Sites and family live in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, Hanover Twp.
In public records in Miami, Dade Co., Florida I found that Vincent G. Sites was married to Sophie D. Pomicter, probably in Pennsylvania. They moved to Miami in 1952 and bought a house at Lot 14, Block 12 of Federal Way, Miami. Vincent worked as a manager of a service station before he retired . He died February 7, 1980. Sophie moved to St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., FL and died there July 26, 1993.
Vincent G. and Sophie D. Sites had one son, Vincent R. Sites of Lexington, Massachusetts.
I have an obituary for Margaret M. Sites of Luzerne Street, Hanover Township, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She died March 14, 1995. It said she was the daughter of William and Matilda Derenge Sites. She was a graduate of Hanover High School, and Bloomsburg University. She was a teacher at Lee Park Elementary School for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre. She was proceded in death by a sister, Ruth and a brother, Vincent. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Home, Inc., 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
From the Social Security Death Index I learned that Ruth L. Sites was born December 9, 1917 and died February 4, 1988 in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
